Greg Leitich Smith is the award-winning author of NINJAS, PIRANHAS, AND GALILEO (Little Brown, 2003)(Recorded Books, 2004)(ages 10-up) and its companion book, TOFU AND T. REX (Little Brown, 2005)(ages 10-up). NINJAS, PIRANHAS, AND GALILEO was a Junior Library Guild selection, Parents’ Choice Gold Medal Winner, and winner of the Writers’ League of Texas Teddy Award for Best (Long) Children’s Book. TOFU AND T. REX was a finalist for the TSRA Golden Spur Award and the Writers’ League of Texas Teddy Award. His latest title is SANTA KNOWS (Dutton, 2006)(ages 4-up), which was featured among the Horn Book’s “Holiday High Notes.”
Greg has been a featured author/speaker at the Texas Book Festival as well as at schools, public libraries, universities, and conferences of such groups as: the American Library Association; the Texas Library Association; the National Council of Teachers of English; the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents; Reading The World; Star-Lit Children’s Literary Festival; etc.
Greg attended a science magnet school, Lane Tech High School in Chicago, where he was raised. A patent lawyer by day, Greg holds with academic honors: a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana; a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas, Austin; and a jurist doctor from The University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor. Today, Greg makes his home in Austin, Texas, with his wife, author Cynthia Leitich Smith.
