February Meeting: If You Build It, They Will Read
Posted January 15, 2010 in Events
The February meeting will be at BookPeople on February 13 from 11am – 12 noon.
Come join author Bethany Hegedus for a nuts and bolts approach to scene and structure. No hammer needed, or nails—just bring a notebook and get ready to examine Aristotle’s Incline and the 7 Key Scenes every book needs. Please be familiar with Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, (and who isn’t?) as Bethany will discuss the 7 Key Scenes used to build this gem of a book.
Bethany Hegedus
Bethany Hegedus is the new Dame in town—Delacorte Dame that is. She is thrilled to join local Austin Delacorte authors in their bid to take over the publishing world. Once an educator and youth advocate, Bethany recently developed a program with fellow author Kekla Magoon, titled: The Movement: A Decade of Change 1959-1968, which brings the Civil Rights Era to life for young readers in unique and engaging ways featuring their respective novels Between Us Baxters and The Rock and The River. Bethany has served as a mentor in the PEN Prison Writing Program and holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Bethany is co-editor of the Young Adult and Children’s section of the literary journal Hunger Mountain and she serves under Cyndi Hughes at the Writers’ League of Texas in her position as Office Manager. Bethany’s debut novel, Between Us Baxters (WestSide Books) has been well received by reviewers, educators, and students alike. Her second novel, Truth With a Capital T, a contemporary middle grade, is forthcoming with Delacorte Press in fall 2010. She can be found online at www.bethanyhegedus.com.
