Operation Teen Book Drop – April 15th
In 2008 and 2009, readergirlz worked with Guys Lit Wire and YALSA to facilitate the donation of 20,000 new books to hospitalized teens. This year, readergirlz also working with If I Can Read, I Can Do Anything and donating loads of books to teens on Native American Reservations.
Operation TBD happens on April 15 (which is also Support Teen Literature Day). In addition to the publisher-donated books we give out, part of Operation TBD has always been for people to leave books in their own community — to secretly “drop” a book in a public space where a teen will find it and can read it.
This year, there is a large scale effort to get more YA and middle grade authors out dropping their own books! Your participation is key! All you have to do is drop one of your books in a public location–some lucky stranger will be psyched to find it.

If you want, you can also print out one of our bookplates (attached here and available at the link to Operation TBD info) so people know you’re part of the official guerilla crew. And let us know if you’re participating. We’ll add you and a link to your site to the list of Operation TBD Friends. And if you send us a photo of yourself rocking the drop, we’ll blog about it when the big day comes. Be sure to tweet, too, using the hashtag #operationtbd.
So, if you’d like to be part of Operation TBD 2010:
1. Mark April 15 on your calendar!
2. Email Elizabeth Gallagher at elizabethigallagher@gmail. com to let her know you’ll be participating. She’ll add you to the big list that they’ll be publicizing.
3. Decide where you want to drop a book!
4. If you want, snap a photo of your drop and send it to Elizabeth for inclusion in what’s sure to be a bonanza of blog pics on the day!
