Volunteers Needed at the San Antonio TLA SCBWI Booth
Posted March 18, 2010 in Opportunities
We are seeking volunteers to serve as SCBWI member attendants at this year’s SCBWI booth at the Texas Library Association conference, to be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio from April 14 – 17, 2010.
Admission to the TLA conference is $20 which, unfortunately, we cannot reimburse. However, TLA conference attendees may enjoy these benefits:
- A chance to gain an overview of the children’s publishing industry
- An invitation to attend book signings by favorite children’s authors
- Promotional books and other materials offered free to attendees
- The opportunity to visit the booths of children’s educational and trade publishing houses
- A wonderful way to meet, work and network with your fellow Texas SCBWI members
- A chance to slip out and enjoy our (free!) beautiful Riverwalk and the historic Alamo — all within walking distance of the convention center.
We also know that many of our members may already have their admission covered, as they are scheduled for book signings or speaking engagements — please consider spending just a couple of hours helping out at our booth!
We are requesting that volunteers commit to a two-hour shift. SCBWI booth attendants will be asked to:
- Greet visitors in a friendly and courteous manner
- Distribute our exciting, full-color SCBWI Author and Illustrator Speakers Sourcebook
- Answer questions about SCBWI or our Sourcebook
- Sign up librarian attendees for our daily raffles, with giveaways of signed books by our SCBWI members
- Draw and announce the raffle winners, and distribute prizes
- Help set-up/break down the booth if scheduled for the first or last day of the convention.
Volunteers will be notified regarding shift assignment once the schedule is complete.
