A note from Cynthia Levinson - ASCBWI member:

I’m delighted to say that I’ll be giving a talk about my forthcoming book at the National Council of Teachers of English annual convention on Nov. 19 in Chicago. I’m teaming up with classroom and graduate school teachers and a curriculum developer to present “Social Justice: Reading Its Past, Writing Its Future.” Focusing on WE’VE GOT A JOB: THE 1963 BIRMINGHAM CHILDREN’S MARCH (Peachtree 2012), our session will show how “Thousands of black schoolchildren took to the streets and were jailed in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. Four of them can march into your classroom. Learn how (1) Audrey, James, Arnetta, and Wash helped defeat Jim Crow; (2) a middle-grade ELA teacher channels them to teach social justice; and (3) methods instruction can promote discussion and inquiry.”

Now I just have to write my presentation!
