Dates of Interest for the ASCBWI Community

Got your pencils ready? Is your calendar close at hand? Good, because we have some important dates for you to make note of. Dates of events that you do not want to miss. Here we go…

The Texas Book Festival – October 22 & 23: An astounding number of our local talent will be participating as presenters and moderators during the 2011 Texas Book Festival.  A big thanks for Greg Leitich Smith for compiling an incredible list of  Kid Lit presenters and moderators. Check it out and come on out to Capital grounds and join in the literary fun!

The 2nd Annual ASCBWI Holiday Party - December 8th: We’re going to return to Opal Divine’s Marina to both celebrate the blessings we share in being a vibrant creative community and reach out to the wildfire devastated Bastrop community through the donation of books or monetary contributions. Seriously, do not wait too long to reserve your spot to attend the party. Places are already going fast. Access the on-line reservation form right away and plan on being there for the fun.  If you cannot attend the party, yet desire to contribute to the ASCBWI Bastrop Outreach, send your donation to address noted on the website post.

Something for Everybody – The 2012 Regional Conference News- Feb. 17 to 19:

  • Because of the enthusiastic response to the Sunday Lisa Yee Full Day Intensive, the event has been moved to Wyndham’s amphitheater.  This change of venue opens a few more short-lived registration spaces for those who desire to hear Lisa present her master class and spend the day with our celebrated publishing professionals.
  • Based on the super success of our recent Digital Storytelling: Embrace the Change symposium, we have responded to multiple requests to see this sort of programming presented at the Regional by adding two tech track small group intensives. Erik Kuntz will be teaching us how create am effective web persona and Tricia (PJ) Hoover will be demonstrating the techniques necessary to create dazzling book trailers.
  • We are excited to announce that the award-winning, New York Times best selling author, Cynthia Leitich Smith, has joined our Austin Shining Stars faculty. Yippee!
  • The Wyndham is offering an affordable Conference reservation rate of $109.00 per night for a block of rooms for our out-of-town guests. There are a limited number of rooms available. Get them while you can.
  • Early-bird registration ends December 1st.
  • One-on-one manuscript submission cut-off date is December 15th. We have so many accomplished professionals for you to choose from – both local talent and accomplished professionals. What are you waiting for? Register for the 2012 Regional Conference today!
So many great events, right? We’re looking forward to seeing you around.
All the very best to you,
Debbie, Carmen, and Mark
