December 2011 News
The Conference Early Bird Deadline is just around the corner! After December 15th, opportunities to reserve one-on-one critique sessions with our incredible line-up of professionals will end and the price to register will raise. Come to think of it…wouldn’t an early registration be the perfect stocking stuffer? We think so. Together, ASCBWI community, we had to honor of spreading a hefty dose of holiday cheer with our donation of well over 1000 books and close to $300 to the Bastrop Friends of the Library. ARA Carmen Oliver and her husband served as our elves, packing their SUV to the brim with books and joyfully hauling them out to a neighboring community in need. Read Carmen’s account of the experience and smile. In short, as a local chapter in collaboration with Kid-Lit enthusiasts nation-wide, we have banded together to shed a bit of SCBWI love and light which will shine in the hearts of young readers for a long time. Please take moment to note the new scheduling format for our first monthly meeting of the year. On Saturday, Jan. 14th Brian Yansky will kick off 2012 with his presentation about Getting Organized at 10:00 am at BookPeople. Brian will be sharing secrets regarding keeping creative projects in order, thus becoming more productive in the process. The Open Critique session follows the monthly meeting presentation at 11:00 on the 3rd floor. And, then, get set for another treat scheduled for 1:00 pm on the 3rd floor. Recently, Tim Crow, Lynne Hoenig, and Bonnie Crow attended the celebrated Story Masters Workshop with Chris Vogler, James Scott Bell, and Donald Maass as presenters. Tim and crew have agreed to meet and share the riches they gleaned from the workshop in a casual, conversational setting…almost be as good as attending the real deal!
Wishing you and yours all the best of the holidays and beyond! Debbie, Carmen, and Mark |
