How Do I Join

Membership in the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is through the international office, which is located in Los Angeles, CA. The local chapters of SCBWI do not charge dues.

To join SCBWI, you should visit www.scbwi.org and read all about the benefits of becoming an SCBWI Member. Then, simply join.

SCBWI offers two major conferences annually, one in the winter in New York City, and one in late summer in Los Angeles. Information about these conferences and the guest agents and editors attending is available on the international website, www.scbwi.org.

The Austin/Central Texas SCBWI Chapter offers regular meetings, open writer and illustrator critique groups, special writing workshops and an annual fall conference. Visitors are always welcome at our monthly meetings. Some of our special events, such as conferences and workshops require pre-registration and may involve a fee. Visit the Calendar section on this site for more details on our upcoming free programs and special events.

We encourage you to come to our meetings and get to know us. The children's and teen publishing field is very competitive and you can learn a great deal by networking with other writers and illustrators. Our members range from people thinking about their first book to seasoned professionals with several books in print. We share an enthusiasm for creating quality books for children and young people, as well as a desire to help fellow SCBWI members succeed. So join SCBWI soon and come to our monthly meetings. We're looking forward to meeting you!
