About Me

My goal is to inspire children to read and write more. Before I became a writer, I was an aerospace engineering technician. In my heart, however, I was always a writer. As a staff writer for a local newspaper, I wrote numerous articles. I’ve also ghost written short stories for a national magazine. Some of my poetry has been published in anthologies as well. I am currently working on a middle-grade novel. I’ve been a featured author at the Texas Book Festival in Austin.

A native Texan, I’ve also lived in Thailand and Japan. I love to travel and have visited Italy twice. I enjoy roaming the Spanish missions in San Antonio and can almost envision the way of life of the Indians and Spanish missionaries who lived there more than a hundred years ago.

Published Books

Bilingual picture story books: Lupita’s Papalote (kite) illustrated by Pauline Rodriguez Howard, The Woodcutter’s Gift/El Regalo del leñdor, illustrated by Elaine Jerome, and nominated for the 2009 Tejas Star Book Award, and The Battle of the Snow Cones/La Guerra de las raspas, illustrated by Alisha Gambino. All three were published by Arte Público Press.

Something Cool About Me

While living in Okinawa, I learned how to design clothes and pattern draft from an elderly World War II Japanese veteran who was a tailor before the war. I also experienced a typhoon while living on the island.
