Tate II, Don - Illustrator

Tate, a native of Des Moines, Iowa is currently living in Austin, Texas. He was first introduced to childrens publishing through Perfection Learning, a publisher of supplemental educational products. While there, he had the opportunity to work with and learn from other illustrators, and travel to various reading conferences. Networking, he soon began getting work from educational publishers and children's magazines across the country. After two years of pursuing trade books, he was contacted by Andrea Pinkney to illustrate SAY HEY! A SONG OF WILLIE MAYS. It was published in the spring of 2000 by Jump at the Sun, an imprint of Hyperion Books for Children. Don is also the illustrator of SUMMER SUN RISIN' and BLACK ALL AROUND! both published by Lee and Low Books. He is currently illustrating the book SURE AS SUNRISE which will publish with Houghton Mifflin in the spring of 2004.
Don works full time as a news graphic artist for the Austin American-Statesman in Austin, Texas. He is available to do school visits.
