Janet wrote her first poem in second grade, and has been writing ever since. In seventh grade, she wanted to be an author, but later became interested in teaching. After graduating from San Marcos High School, she attended Texas State University (at that time it was called Southwest Texas State University). She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and later, her Master's Degree. After marrying John Kaderli and moving to New Braunfels in 1981, Janet started teaching Kindergarten.

The history of New Braunfels fascinated Janet, especially since the Kaderli family was among the founding families of settlers in 1845. When New Braunfels celebrated its 150 year anniversary, Janet spent a lot of time researching the topic in order to teach her Kindergarteners the history of their community

After receiving a letter from a friend reminding her of her 7th grade dream of being an author, Janet began pursuing that goal once more. The research about the settlement of New Braunfels became her first book, Molasses Cookies, published in 1998.

Now Janet is celebrating the publication of her fourth book, Patchwork Trail, the sequel to Molasses Cookies. Patchwork Trail is also based on the personal experiences of Janet and her family. It is beautifully illustrated by Patricia Arnold, who used Janet's parents as models for the grandparents in the story.

Janet enjoys visiting schools and other groups to tell about her books and to encourage fellow writers of all ages.
