The SCBWI Online Discussion Group

The Austin SCBWI chapter has opened its own online discussion group. With the email-based online support community, members can get help, spread information and connect with others between monthly meetings.

The Austin SCBWI Yahoo! Group is open to all members of the chapter with currently paid-up SCBWI dues. All you need to join is a free Yahoo! account. You can also sign in using your Facebook account.

There are thousands of reasons why you should join the Austin SCBWI discussion group, but we’ll give you just the Top 5:

5. It’s easy to use: You can participate in the online community by email or through the Austin SCBWI Yahoo Groups page.

4. It’s convenient: When posted, messages will be delivered to your inbox and you can read them whenever you want. The subject line of the message will say what the message is about, so you can pick and choose which messages you want to read.

3. You can have it your way: In the Yahoo Groups settings, you can decide if you want to receive messages as soon as they’re posted, once a day in a compilation or once a week. Or there’s a no email option, so you can login to the Austin SCBWI Yahoo Groups page to view the messages.

2. It’s for you: The group is a support community, a place where you can pass on information about a signing you’re doing, a great article or book you just read, or a contest you heard about. And it’s a place where you can share good news or seek guidance or encouragement when you need it.

And the No. 1 reason why you should join the Austin SCBWI discussion group: Because our members are just so much fun to be around.

The discussion group has two main rules:

First, please stay on the topic of writing or illustrating children’s books. This is not a place to rail about political or other views or share recipes (although if someone knows a recipe that makes chocolate as healthy as broccoli, please feel free to email the moderator).

And second —and this should go without saying — be nice. This is an online support community, with emphasis on. No flaming, no negativity, no spamming. And please do not write messages in all caps; that’s the equivalent of shouting online. The discussion group is moderated, so messages are approved prior to publication. If you break the rules, you will be removed from the community, and no one wants that.
